Turning the invisible forces of nature into art.
The discipline and craft of making an invisible field visible: the study of its structure, and the art of recording that structure permanently in a chosen medium.
Every piece is a one-off magnetic field frozen in resin. What changes is how you light it — and where you put it.
A LED source around the disc pushes light through the resin, so every filament of the field is picked out against the glow. The effect is strongest after dark, and the piece becomes a lamp as much as an artwork. Dimmable options are available.
Phosphorescent pigment is cast into the resin background. The piece charges in daylight and releases it slowly once the room goes dark — the field appears as a black silhouette floating in green light. No wiring, no power.
The field as it settles, with nothing added: dense black particle structure in optically clear resin, read against its own pale ground. Graphic, quiet, and at home in daylight.
Each finish can be delivered in any of three formats — the choice is yours:
Larger pieces ship with a signed certificate of authenticity. Alongside the usual details it carries a depiction of the magnet layout used to create that particular field — the arrangement behind the pattern, recorded as part of the piece's provenance.
Kept free of mechanical stress, chemical exposure, extreme temperatures and prolonged UV radiation — direct sunlight included — a piece will last for hundreds of years. A slight yellowing after a decade or so is unavoidable with any resin, but it does not affect the clarity or the fields themselves.
LED lighting will not last that long. The frame is designed so a skilled person can replace it when the time comes.
Most of the artwork contains no magnets and no significant magnetic field of its own — what you see is the record of a field, not the field itself. That makes these pieces suitable for environments where magnetism would be a problem, and for people with pacemakers.
I was always fascinated by everything "invisible" — especially magnets, with their magic power to attract, repel and generate electricity.
I started experimenting with synthetic resin in 2015 and one of my first experiments was to entrap magnetic fields. Ever since, I was trying to make something that will be practical and good looking.
Six years in, I started arranging magnetic fields into patterns resembling mandalas and pouring resin with magnetic particles into the form over it.
This allowed me to "visualize" and "freeze" magnetic fields of various shapes. However, making these was quite resource-consuming and too small (15 cm) to spark any real interest.
Another two years and many experiments later, I had the idea to fill a bowl with liquid mixed with magnetic particles. That's how Yuri's magnetic field visualizer was born.
After placing a magnetic field below it and waiting for the particles to settle, stunning views of how magnetic fields interact appear inside.
I wanted to create something that could be placed on display — worth sharing with the world so people could enjoy these views outside of my home or workshop.
So I made the magnetic field mandala bigger and, after a while, had the idea to use light to highlight the effect. I'm uploading some of my work to online portfolio portals below. Feel free to check out and follow.
